Qajaq Camp 2026! Registration now open.

Let’s go paddle.

Qajaq Camp is a non-profit based in Minnesota. Our mission is to organize kayak events with the purpose to preserve, study and promote the traditions and techniques of Greenland kayaking while seeking to further the appreciation and development of Greenland-style kayaking in the United States.

Meet Our 2026 Guest Mentors, Tim & Gina

Tim Gallaway is an expedition kayaker and Greenland Style instructor based out of west Michigan. Since 2009, Tim has specialized in the use of traditional Arctic paddling skills and equipment, including Greenland paddles and skin-on-frame kayaks. In the summer of 2018 Tim traveled to Greenland to compete in the National Qajaq Championships.  In 2021 he completed a personal goal of a paddling expedition along the entire Upper Peninsula of Michigan shoreline of Lake Superior and Lake Huron. In 2023 he and a friend spent 2 weeks canoeing in the Canadian backcountry and from that created an award winning film called 'Make the Time'. In 2024, Tim paddled 3 weeks along the rugged Maine coast. Unsupported and unsponsored, Tim shares vlogs of his trips to inspire people to get out on the water safely and have their own adventures.

Gina Johnson: I’ve been happily obsessed with qajaqing since I was 12—you can blame (or thank!) my parents for that. The passion turned into a family affair, and I even married into the paddling community, so there’s really no escape!

My specialty is coaxing beginners into that first, glorious roll and sharing the secret that chilly water is just… water, with attitude. I love the "lightbulb" moments, the splashy giggles, and proving that with a good coach and a bit of courage, anyone can find their balance on and under the water. I’m excited to be back.

The camp is held at Hok Si La Regional park. The facility includes exclusive use of a huge heated and air-conditioned dining hall for all Qajaq Camp members. We use the hall for meals, evening events, yoga, movies, games, kayak build competition and other shenanigans.

Camping, dining hall and warm showers are all within feet of the fabulous sandy beach.
